MALOLOS, BULACAN – Vice President Sara Z. Duterte will lead the flag raising and wreath-laying ceremonies at the Barasoain Church Historical Landmark, Malolos, Bulacan on 15 September 2022, 8:00 a.m. in commemoration of the 124th anniversary of the opening of Malolos Congress with the theme, “Kongreso ng Malolos: Patnubay sa Pagtataguyod ng Nagkakaisang Bansa”
NHCP Chairman Rene R. Escalante will join Vice President Duterte in the wreath-laying ceremony. They will also be joined by Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando, Bulacan Vice Governor Alex C. Castro, Malolos City Mayor Christian D. Natividad, and Malolos City Vice Mayor Miguel Alberto T. Bautista.
A short program will follow the flag-raising and wreath-laying rites with Most. Rev. Dennis C. Villarojo, D.D. officiating the prayer. Mayor Natividad will deliver his welcome remarks to be followed by Governor Fernando’s message. NHCP Chairman Escalante will introduce the guest of honor Vice President Duterte who will deliver the principal address.
The Malolos Congress was first opened on 15 September 1898 to draw a constitution for the First Philippine Republic. The Congress elected its set of officers, namely, Pedro Paterno as President; Benito Legarda as Vice President; Gregorio Araneta as First Secretary; and Pablo Ocampo as Second Secretary. It ratified the first Philippine Constitution which eventually led to the proclamation of Philippine Independence.
The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote and preserve Philippine history through its museums and publications and preserve the nation’s historical heritage.
