Caloocan City – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the commemoration of the 156th birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio last 30 November 2019, 4:00 p.m., at the Bonifacio National Monument, Caloocan City.
Commemorative events in other sites started at 8:00 a.m., namely, Museo ng Paglilitis ni Andres Bonifacio, Maragondon, Cavite; Bonifacio Monument, Balintawak (Cloverleaf), Quezon City; Bonifacio Monument, Tutuban Center, Manila; Bonifacio Monument, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig; and the Pinaglabanan Memorial Shrine, San Juan City.
This year’s commemorative program, with the theme “Bonifacio 2019: Pagpupugay at Pag-alala sa Kagitingang Ipinamalas,” is led by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) in coordination with other government agencies, local government units, and non-government organizations.
Andres Bonifacio led the Kataastaasan Kagalanggalangan Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan (KKK or Katipunan) which was established on 7 July 1892. The organization aimed to end Spanish colonial rule through armed revolution. Bonifacio was later on elected as Supremo of the Katipunan.
The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history and preserve historical heritage through its administration of national shrines, museums, research and publication, conservation and marking of historic sites and structures.
