President Rodrigo Roa Duterte will lead the observance of the flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies at the Jose Rizal Monument in Davao City on December 30 at 4:00 p.m.   This year’s theme is “Rizal 2018: Wisdom and Compassion, Foundation of a Free and Progressive Nation.” (Rizal 2018: Talino at Malasakit sa Isa’t Isa, Pundasyon ng Isang Malaya at Maunlad na Bansa)

President Duterte will be joined by National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Acting Exec. Dir. Ludovico D. Badoy, AFP Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benjamin Madrigal, Jr., Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Policarpio, and other local officials in Davao City.

Meanwhile, Vice President Maria Leonor G. Robredo will lead the flag-raising and wreath laying ceremonies at the Rizal National Monument, Rizal Park, Manila at 7:00 a.m.  She will be joined by NHCP Chairman Rene R. Escalante, and other officials from various governemnt agencies and civic organizations.

The commemorative program will be replicated at the Rizal Shrine, Calamba and Rizal Shrine, Dapitan City, with Mayor Justin Marc SB. Chipeco and Mayor Rosalina G. Jalosjos as guests of honor, respectively.

Other scheduled activities at the Rizal Park, in Manila are: 

  • Martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal: A Light and Sound Presentation, a guided tour from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., 28-30 December at the Rizal Park, Manila.
  • Jose Rizal Model Students Award, 30 December, 8:00 to 11:00 a.m., at the Barbara’s Heritage Restaurant, Intramuros, Manila.
  • Concert at the Park presents “Serenata Pilipinas 2: Pagpupugay kay Dr. Jose Rizal,” 30 December, 6:00 p.m., at the Rizal Park Open Air Auditorium
  • Free LRT/MRT Rides on 30 December from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums and publications, and preserve the nation’s historical heritage.
