Lubao, Pampanga – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) and the Municipality of Lubao will lead the 25th death anniversary of Diosdado Macapagal on 21 April 2022, 8:00 a.m., at the Museo at Aklatan ni Diosdado Macapagal, Lubao, Pampanga.

Lubao Mayor Esmeralda Pineda will offer the wreath on behalf of the Municipality of Lubao and Museo at Aklatan ni Diosdado Macapagal OIC Gil Angelo Manalili will offer the wreath for the NHCP at the Macapagal Monument. A short photo-taking opportunity will take place after the wreath-laying rites.

The simple event will have minimal attendees to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Diosdado Macapagal was born on 28 September 1910 to parents Urbano Macapagal and Romana Pangan. An excellent student, he managed to finish his law degree in 1936. Macapagal became President of the Republic of the Philippines in 1961, dedicating his administration to suppress corruption and stimulate the growth of the economy. He was also known for promulgating the Agricultural Land Reform Code, the first land reform legislation of the country. He died at 86 years old on 21 April 1997 due to a heart attack.

NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine History through its museums and publications and preserve the nation’s historical heritage.
