MANILA ─ The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) led by its Chairman Rene R. Escalante, will unveil on Monday, 22 May 2017 at 5:00 p.m., the historical marker Unang Konsulado Heneral ng Australia sa Pilipinas. The marker states:

 

UNANG KONSULADO HENERAL NG AUSTRALIA SA PILIPINAS

                                    SA UNANG PALAPAG NG MANILA HOTEL BINUKSAN ANG UNANG KONSULADO HENERAL NG AUSTRALIA SA PILIPINAS NA NAGPASIMULA NG DIPLOMATIKONG UGNAYAN SA PAGITAN NG DALAWANG BANSA, 22 MAYO 1946. HERBERT ANTON PETERSON, UNANG KONSUL-HENERAL, 1946-1948. PINASINAYAAN BILANG PAGGUNITA SA IKA-70 ANIBERSARYO NG DIPLOMATIKONG UGNAYAN SA PAGITAN NG PILIPINAS AT AUSTRALIA ALINSUNOD SA PROKLAMASYON BILANG 1282 NA NILAGDAAN NOONG 23 MAYO 2016.

Chairman Rene R. Escalante will officially turn over the marker to the administration of the Manila Hotel through Chairman Basilio Yap. Manila Hotel President Joey Lina and the NHCP Executive Director Ludovico D. Badoy will stand as witnesses during the signing of the certificate of transfer.

The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote and preserve Philippine history through its museums, research and publication, and preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
