Baler, Aurora – The Inter-Agency Committee for the Philippine – Spanish Friendship Day celebration will lead the commemoration of the 118th Anniversary of the Siege of Baler (15th Philippine – Spanish Friendship Day) on 30 June 2017, 8:00 a.m. at Plaza de Baler, Aurora.

Leading the flag raising and wreath-laying ceremonies are Guests of Honor Department of Budget and Management Secretary Benjamin E. Diokno representing the Philippines, and His Excellency Ambassador Luis Calvo of the Embassy of Spain, representing Spain. They will be joined by Sen. Juan Edgardo M. Angara, Congresswoman Bellaflor J. Angara-Castillo and National Historical Commission of the Philippines Chair Dr. Rene R. Escalante.

Other attendees include members of the diplomatic corps, officials from the Provincial Government of Aurora, and the Municipal Government of Baler.

The Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day was established by Republic Act No. 9187 on 22 July 2002, as a means to strengthen the relationship between two nations that share history, values, and traditions.

The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research and publication, and preserve the nation’s historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
