MANILA, 30 NOVEMBER 2023 – President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. led the Filipino nation in commemorating the 160th Birth Anniversary of Andres Bonifacio on 30 November 2023, 8:00 AM, at the Bonifacio National Monument, Caloocan City. President Marcos was joined by NHCP Chairman Emmanuel Franco Calairo, AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S. Brawner, Representative Oscar G. Malapitan of the 1st District of Caloocan, and Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo Malapitan. With the theme “Katungkulan at Pananagutan Tungo sa Kaunlaran ng Bayan” the commemoration sought to remind all Filipinos of our shared responsibility in ensuring the progress and prosperity of our nation.
Andres Bonifacio is widely recognized as one of the Philippines’ national heroes. Coming from a middle-class background, he worked various jobs in the late 19th Century Manila and co-founded the Kataas-taasan, Kagalang-galangan, Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan or the KKK in 1892. He later became the leader of this underground organization that sought to liberate the Philippines from Spanish Colonial Rule. This later came in August 1896 when the movement initiated the Philippine Revolution that ultimately won Filipino independence from Spain in 1898.
The National Historical Commission of the Philippines is the principal government agency mandated with strengthening Filipino nationalism through the promotion of our history and the protection of our heritage. (NHCP Communications Team)
