PASIG CITY ─ The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) led by its Chairman Dr. Emmanuel Franco Calairo, unveiled the historical marker, “Asamblea Magna” last 29 August 2023. The marker states:

NOONG UNANG LINGGO NG MAYO 1896, NAGANAP ANG ASAMBLEA MAGNA O DAKILANG PULONG SA TAHANAN NI VALENTIN CRUZ SA PASIG, LALAWIGAN NG MAYNILA NANG TINIPON NI ANDRES BONIFACIO ANG MGA PINUNO NG MGA BALANGAY AT IBA PANG OPISYAL NG KATIPUNAN UPANG PLANUHIN ANG PAGHIHIMAGSIK LABAN SA ESPANYA. NAKISABAY ANG MGA KATIPUNERO SA DAGSA NG MGA NAMAMANATA SA NUESTRA SENORA Y DELA PAZ Y BUENVIAJE NA PATUNGO NG ANTIPOLO PARA MAIWASAN ANG HINALA NG MGA ESPANYOL. Pasig City Mayor Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto delivered his acceptance message after signing the certificate of transfer.
On May 3, 1896, the Supremo, Andres Bonifacio called for a general meeting among Katipunan leaders in Pasig. It was to appraise what Bonifacio termed as “difficulties with which our Society is beset.” The Katipunan had been exposed and he wanted to act and start the uprising so as not to be forced against the wall. The Katipunan assembly in Pasig is known today as the “Asamblea Magna.”
The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications, and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
