NEW JERSEY, USA ─ The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) led by its Executive Director Carminda R. Arevalo will unveil the historical marker, “Jose Rizal (1861-1896)” on 17 November 2023, 11:00 a.m. at the Rizal Monument, Cooper River Park, Camden County, Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA. The marker states:

1861-1896
A FILIPINO HERO. BORN ON 19 JUNE 1861, DOCTOR, SCIENTIST, WRITER, AND EDUCATOR.
AUTHORED WORKS ABOUT THE ILLS OF THE PHILIPPINE COLONIAL SOCIETY OF THE TIME. HE ADVOCATED REFORMS BUT WAS CHARGED WITH REBELLION, SEDITION, AND ILLEGAL ASSOCIATION.
AN ICON OF THE 1896 PHILIPPINE REVOLUTION, HE WAS EXECUTED ON 30 DECEMBER 1896.
HIS MARTYRDOM CONTRIBUTED TO THE BIRTH OF THE FILIPINO NATION.
Exec. Dir. Arevalo will officially turn over the marker to Camden County Department of Parks Commissioner Jeffrey L. Nash. Philippine Consulate General in New York Consul General Senen T. Mangalile; Dr. Jose P. Rizal Centennial, Inc. Chairman Eleanor Esguerra Benitez; Mr. Roman Ventura; and Ms. Eleonor Samonte of NHCP will stand as witnesses during the signing of the certificate of transfer.
Commissioner Nash will deliver his acceptance message after signing the certificate of transfer.
The unveiling at Cherry Hill, New Jersey was made possible through the cooperation of the Philippine Consulate General in New York, Camden County Department of Parks, Dr. Jose P. Rizal Centennial, Inc., and Filipino Executive Council of Greater Philadelphia.
The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications, and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
