CONCEPCION, TARLAC 16 April 2024 – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) will hold the 1st REPUBLIKA Lecture at the Concepcion Campus of the Tarlac State University on 19 April 2024, in line with the commemoration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of General Servillano Aquino.
The REPUBLIKA Lecture Series is a project of the NHCP in solidarity with the 125th Anniversary of Philippine Independence and Nationhood (2023-2026) that will follow the trail of the First Philippine Republic as it fought to survive and govern during the Philippine-American War until 1901. It will highlight the contributions of the towns and provinces that hosted the Republic and served as key battle and resistance sites during the conflict, as well as the experiences of the Filipinos during a time of great social change.
For the 1st Lecture, Mr. Rhonie Dela Cruz of the Bamban Historical Society will discuss Tarlac during the Philippine-American War while NHCP Commissioner Dr. Lino L. Dizon will share the story of General Servillano Aquino, a local hero of Tarlac during the Revolution. The program will also see the launching of Dr. Dizon’s book “The Beginnings of Tarlac Province, 1571-1873” published by the NHCP, and the opening of the Local Historical Committees Network Exhibit “When Tables Are Turned.”
The NHCP is the principal government agency mandated with strengthening our people’s nationalism through the promotion of Philippine history and the protection of our cultural heritage.
