NORZAGARAY, BULACAN ─ The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) joins with the Municipal Government of Norzagaray, Bulacan in commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Ipo Dam on 17 May 2025, Saturday at 7:00 a.m.
University of the Philippines-Diliman (UP-Diliman) Professor Emeritus Dr. Ricardo T. Jose will lead the flag-raising and wreath-laying rites. He will be joined by NHCP Deputy Executive Director Alvin R. Alcid, Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) Administrator Reynaldo B. Mapagu, officials and personnel from the Provincial Government of Bulacan and Municipal Government of Norzagaray.
After the wreath-laying rites, the guests, officials and personnel will proceed to the Ipo Elementary School for the program proper.
Between 6 to 17 May 1945, the battle that took place at the Ipo Dam became a significant military engagement of the Filipinos and Americans against Japanese Imperial Forces. With Ipo dam in the hands of the Japanese, the Filipino guerilla fighters and the United States army, through coordinated assault, successfully secured the water supply to greater Manila.
The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications, and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
