PARANAQUE, METRO MANILA – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) represented by its Executive Director Carminda R. Arevalo together with the OKADA Foundation, Inc. represented by President James G. Lorenzana, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) last 22 July 2024 at OKADA Manila in Paranaque, Metro Manila.
The partnership aims to finance the renewal and enhancement of the NHCP Museo ni Miguel Malvar in Sto. Tomas, Batangas with Php3M, by purchasing relevant artifacts and documentary replicas, creation of dioramas and production of videos related to the life of General Miguel Malvar. According to President Lorenzana, one of the foundation’s thrusts is supporting restoration of cultural heritage. This museum project is a first for them and opportunely pays homage to Malvar and his contributions in the fight for Philippine Independence.
ED Arevalo for her part, says that “collaborations with the private sector like this, greatly helps in the disseminating of information on Filipinos’ roles in our journey towards nationhood.” Mr. Gabriel Malvar, descendant of Gen. Malvar who initiated the project, thanked both the NHCP and the OKADA Foundation for believing and supporting the endeavor. The signing was witnessed by other NHCP officials, foundation staff and other descendants of Malvar.
Malvar is one of the last Filipino generals who served during the Philippine Revolution and, subsequently, during the Philippine-American War where he assumed command of the Philippine forces after the capture of Emilio Aguinaldo.
The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications, and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
