NAGA CITY ─ The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) in partnership with the City Government of Naga, will lead the simple commemorative rites for the 66th birth anniversary of Jesse Robredo on 27 May 2024, 9:00 a.m.

To start the activity, a mass will be offered by Re. Fr. Marcel Emmanuel D.P. Real of the Immaculate Conception Parish, followed by a short program. Messages from Naga City Mayor Nelson S. Legacion and Atty. Maria Leonor G. Robredo, spouse of the late Jesse Robredo will be imparted.

Jesse Manalastas Robredo was a former Philippine politician who served as mayor of his home city of Naga. During his time of service, he was given the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service in 2000, the first mayor in the country to receive this. He would then serve under the late President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino Jr. as the administration’s Secretary of the Interior and Local Government until his death in 2012.

Robredo focused on relocating thousands of residents within Manila’s slums into proper housing projects, pushing for the building of in-city tenement for those settlers living in the slums.

The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications, and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
