KAWIT, CAVITE ─ The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) together with the Municipality of Kawit, will spearhead the commemorative rites at the Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine on 22 March 2024, at 9:00 a.m.
Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin C. Abalos, Jr. will be joined by 1st District of Kawit Representative Ramon “Jolo” Revilla III, NHCP Chairman Emmanuel Franco Calairo, Cavite Governor Juanito Victor C. Remulla, Kawit Mayor Emilio G. Aguinaldo, and Ms. Emilie Aguinaldo-Pulido, descendant of Emilio Aguinaldo. The commemorative rites will be officiated by the Philippine Navy. A mass will be offered by Rev. Fr. Efren Bugayong of the Santa Maria Magdalena Parish Church at 6:30 a.m.
From 1899-1901 Emilio Aguinaldo became the first President of the Philippines, with the country being the first constitutional republic in Asia. He was a Filipino revolutionary, statesman, and military leader who led the Philippine forces first against Spain in the Philippine Revolution (1896–1898), then in the Spanish–American War, and finally against the United States during the Philippine–American War.
The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications, and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
