BALIWAG, BULACAN ─ The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) in coordination with the Provincial Government of Bulacan and City Government of Baliwag, spearheaded the simple commemorative rites at the Museo ni Mariano Ponce last 22 March 2024, 8:00 a.m.
Regional Trial Court Judge Maria Bernardita J. Santos led the flag-raising ang wreath-laying rites. She was joined by NHCP OIC-Deputy Director for Programs and Projects Alvin R. Alcid, 2nd District of Bulacan Representative Augustina Dominique C. Pancho, Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando, Baliwag Mayor Ferdinand V. Estrella, and Mariano Ponce’s descendant, Mr. Jacinto Ponce Gonzales.
Mariano Ponce is remembered as an active member of the Propaganda Movement and among the founders of La Solidaridad. He was a Filipino physician, writer, and statesman. From 1909-1912, he served as Bulacan’s representative to the Philippine Assembly.
The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications, and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
