MANILA – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), with the City Government of Manila will commemorate the 151st anniversary of the martyrdom of Frs. Gomes, Burgos, and Zamora on 17 February 2023, 8:00 a.m. at the GOMBURZA Execution Site, Rizal Park, Manila.
Manila Vice Mayor John Marvin “Yul Servo” C. Nieto will lead the wreath-laying rites. Other wreath-offerors are NHCP OIC-Executive Director Carminda R. Arevalo; National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Executive Director Oscar Casaysay; National Parks Development Committee (NPDC) Executive Director Cecille L. Romero; National Museum Deputy Director-General Atty. Rosene Flores-Avila; Department of Education (DEPED) City School Division of Manila Administrator Dr. Maria Magdalena Lim; Intramuros Administration (IA) Administrator Joan M. Padilla; The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines Grand Master MW Johnny T. Pimentel; Knights of Columbus DD, FN, and Grand Knight Juan Paolo Bellosillo; and Boy Scouts of the Philippines National President Dale B. Corvera.
NPDC Exec. Dir. Romero will give the welcome remarks. The inspirational message will be delivered by NHCP OIC-ED Arevalo. Vice Mayor Nieto’s message will be the highlight of the program.
A wreath-laying activity will also be held at the GOMBURZA National Monument along P. Burgos St., Manila (in front of the National Museum of the Philippines) after which a blessing of the tomb of the three martyrs at Paco Cemetery, Manila will follow. The blessing will be officiated by Rev. Fr. Joel Rescober, C.M.
On the same day, NHCP will premiere a GOMBURZA Documentary featuring events that led to their martyrdom, and the impact they left on Filipinos in their struggle for independence. The video documentary will be seen first at the Metropolitan Theater, Manila at 2:00 p.m.
The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote and preserve Philippine historical heritage through research and publication, heraldry, conservation, marking of historic sites and structures, and administration of national shrines and museums.
