The Museo at Aklatan ni Pangulong Diosdado P. Macapagal (President Diosdado P. Macapagal Museum and Library) in San Nicolas 1st, Lubao, Pampanga is a historical-interactive museum focused on the life and times of Diosdado Pangan Macapagal (September 28, 1910 – April 21, 1997). A two-level museum building showcasing the highlights of Diosdado Macapagal’s life journey, particularly his rise to Malacanan, the Philippine presidential palace. The museum was initiated by the Macapagal descendants  in 2000 to fulfill their father’s dream “A modest library and museum to continue organizing and preserving my papers and souvenirs which, together with those of the other Presidents, could be of use to future generations for the national good.”

The museum consists of Three (3) galleries but the first attraction to be seen is the replica of the Nipa Hut (Bahay Kubo) where Diosdado Macapagal was born and raised. The Nipa hut also features narratives from the book “The Illustrated Triumph over Poverty” written by Sol H. Gwekoh in 1965 about the struggles poverty of the poor boy and his family. The Gallery 1-A entitled “The Poor Boy” is a continuation of the stories in the Nipa hut and the start of his rise in life and politics with education as his stepping stone. One of the highlights of the Gallery 1-A is a huge board showing the Macapagal Family Tree starting from his grandparents. The Gallery 1-B is the “Memorabilia” which houses the collection of images, portraits, and awards of Diosdado Macapagal from his descendants.

The second floor of the building consists of two (2) galleries, the Gallery 2, “The Library” holds the special private book collection of President Macapagal focusing on his lifework as a public servant, his profession as lawyer-educator, and his related interests such as foreign affairs and travel. Gallery 2 is also the repository of the President’s private papers in form of speeches, drafts of articles and manuscripts of publications.

The last gallery, Gallery 3 or the “Presidential Office” is one of the highlights of the museum because it features a replica of Presidential Table and Presidential Chair of President Macapagal in Malacanan and it is an interactive display where visitors can enjoy taking pictures. The Gallery also narrates Macapagal’s post-presidential years until his passing.
