San Juan City – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines-Museo El Deposito (NHCP-MED) in partnership with the City Government of Manila-Department of Tourism, Culture and Arts of Manila will hold the opening reception for the traveling exhibit La Primera Fuente: The Carriedo Fountain Deconstructed on 16 May 2022, 9:00 a.m., at the Manila Zoological and Botanical Garden in Malate, Manila.  This activity is in line with the celebration of National Heritage Month.

The program will begin with the Banda ng Maynila playing the Philippine National Anthem and Awit ng Maynila.  A short prayer will be led by Ms. Ma. Edna Santiago of the NHCP.  Messages will be delivered by Mr. Charlie DJ. Dungo, Officer-in-Charge of the Department of Tourism, Culture and Arts of Manila to be followed by Mr. Alvin R. Alcid, Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Deputy Executive Director for Programs and Projects of the NHCP.  Ribbon-cutting ceremonies immediately follow.

The exhibit was first launched in February 2022 at the Museo El Deposito Underground Reservoir.  It centers on the different elements seen on the centerpiece of the Carriedo Fountain. Using 3D print models on the details of the Carriedo fountain, the exhibit aims to visualize the sculptural parts that are not seen up-close by the public.  It will also feature two other fountains in the world sharing a similar design to the Carriedo fountain: the Fountain of Muses in the Jardim Botanical in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the Tan Kim Seng Fountain in Singapore.

The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote and preserve Philippine history and heritage through its administration of national shrines, museums, research and publication, conservation, and marking of historic sites and structures.
