On 6 March 1965, Presidential Proclamation No. 374 was issued declaring 28 May as National Flag Day to commemorate the historic battle in Alapan, Imus, Cavite when the Philippine revolutionary army defeated the Spanish forces in 1898 and the Philippine flag was first unfurled. On 23 May 1994, Executive Order No. 179 was issued extending the celebration of National Flag Day from 28 May to 12 June. During these days, offices, agencies and instruments of government, business establishments, schools, and private homes are encouraged to display the Philippine flag.
At the end of the lecture the participants are expected to be knowledgeable in the proper display and disposal of the Philippine flag and develop a deeper sense of nationalism and reverence for it since it symbolizes the nation’s identity and ideals.
The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote and preserve Philippine history and heritage through its administration of national shrines, museums, research and publication, conservation, and marking of historic sites and structures.
