This year’s commemorative program, with the theme “Bonifacio 2020: Tapang at Kaligtasan Tungo sa Malayang Lipunan” is led by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) in coordination with other government agencies, and local government units.
Andres Bonifacio, a humble and patriotic man, saw the oppression his fellowmen endured under colonial rule. He joined the La Liga Filipina, an organization founded by Dr. Jose Rizal. When the organization ceased to exist on 3 July 1892, Bonifacio founded the Kataastaasan Kagalanggalang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan (KKK or Katipunan). He was later on elected as the Supremo of the revolutionary organization.
The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history and preserve historical heritage through its administration of national shrines, museums, research and publication, conservation and marking of historic sites and structures.
