City of Manila – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), in coordination with other national and local government agencies will conduct a flag raising and wreath-laying ceremony commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Martyrdom of Jose Rizal on 30 December 2021 at 7:00 a.m. with the theme, “Rizal: Para sa Agham, Katotohanan, at Buhay.”

Simultaneous flag raising ang wreath-laying rites will be conducted at the Rizal National Monument, Rizal Park, Manila; Museo ni Jose Rizal, Calamba Laguna; Museo ni Jose Rizal, Dapitan, Zamboanga del Norte; and Museo ni Jose Rizal, Fort Santiago, Intramuros, Manila.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will conduct the ceremonial singing of the National Anthem and the wreath-laying activity at Rizal Park, Manila. The program will be attended by NHCP Chairman Rene R. Escalante with the members of the Rizal Day Technical Working Committee, cultural agencies, non-government organizations, and descendants of Jose Rizal.

After the wreath-laying rites, it will be followed by the unveiling of the “Jose Rizal historical marker” and 3D Jose Rizal Statue at the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Compound, Bicutan, Taguig to honor Jose Rizal and his contributions in the field of science.

The event will be closed for public viewing as countermeasure to contain the spread of the virus. However, everyone is highly encouraged to visit NHCP’s website and official Facebook page for the details of the event.

The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote and preserve Philippine historical heritage through research and publication, conservation, marking of historic sites and structures, and administration of national shrines and museums.
