San Nicolas, Bulacan – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines with the Local Government of Bulakan will lead the simple rites in commemoration of the 172nd birth anniversary of Marcelo H. Del Pilar on 30 August 2022, 8:00 a.m. at Museo ni Marcelo H. Del Pilar, San Nicolas, Bulakan, Bulacan.

Bulacan 1st District Representative Danilo A. Domingo will lead the flag-raising and wreath-laying rites. He will be joined by Bulakan Mayor Vergel C. Meneses, and Philippine National Police (PNP) Bulacan PLTCOL Dominador Ignacio. Witnesses to the event are Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando, NHCP OIC-Executive Director Carminda R. Arevalo, Bulacan Vice-Governor Alexis C. Castro, Bocaue Mayor Eduardo J. Villanueva Jr., Bulakan Vice Mayor Reina Rica C. Sanchez, Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines Grand Master Johnny T. Pimentel, National Press Club of the Philippines President Lydia B. Bueno, Bulacan Press Club President Omar Padilla, Central Luzon Media Association President Carmela Reyes-Estrope, and IBP-Marcelo H. Del Pilar Bulacan Chapter President Joseph Inocencio.

A short program will follow the wreath-laying rites with Rev. Fr. Javer M. Joaquin officiating the prayer. Mayor Meneses will deliver his welcome remarks to be followed by Governor Fernando’s message and introduction of the speaker. The program will culminate with Representative Domingo’s speech.  

Marcelo H. Del Pilar, also known as Plaridel, was born on 30 August 1850 to parents Juan Hilario Del Pilar and Blasa Gatmaitan in Bulakan, Bulacan. In 1882, he established the Diariong Tagalog and wrote various anti-clerical pamphlets such as Dasalan at Tocsohan and Cai-igat Cayo. He joined Jose Rizal and other Filipino expatriates in Europe and initiated the Reform Movement against Spanish colonial rule.

NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine History through its museums and publications and preserve the nation’s historical heritage.
