The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) in coordination with the Municipal Government of Mauban, Quezon will lead the commemoration of the Birth Centenary of Fr. Horacio V. de la Costa, S.J., on 16 May 2016, at Mauban, Quezon.

 

Wreath-laying rites will be led by the guest of honor, NHCP Commissioner Rene R. Escalante.  He will be joined by Mauban Municipal Mayor Fernando Q. Llamas, and Gov. David C. Suarez of Quezon province.

 

A brief program will immediately follow with Mayor Llamas welcoming the guests and participants.  Governor Suarez and Dr. Rene R. Escalante will deliver their messages.  Mr. Lauro E. Villamayor, Jr., a descendant of Fr. Horacio de la Costa will give his response.

 

Horacio de la V. Costa was born to Judge Sixto de la Costa and Emiliana Villamayor in Mauban, Quezon.  A noted historian, he was the author of The Jesuits in the Philippines 1581-1768, The Trial of Dr. Rizal, Recent Oriental History, Readings in the Philippine History, The Background of Nationalism and Other Essays, and Asia and the Philippines.

 

The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research and publication, and preserve the nation’s historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
