Matanao was formed out of Barrios Kibao, San Vicente, Kibuaya, Managa Km. 67, Sinawilan, New Visayas, Sacub, Upper Malabang, Temongbong, Sinaragan, Maliit Digos, Kapok, Tamlangon, Manga, Buas, New Katipunan, Da-Anama, Upper Kauswagan, and Paitan under the Municipality of Bansalan in the Province of Davao through Republic Act No. 1902 which took effect upon its approval on 22 June 1957.
