From the Ereccion de Pueblos, available at the National Archives of the Philippines, it was mentioned that through a decree dated 7 November 1876, the town of Cuenca was created, independent of the town of San Jose, and was composed of the barrios of Macolot, Dita, Rubac, Bungahan, and Dalipit.
