MANILA – The National Steering Committee on National Observances headed by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines announces the various activities for this year’s celebration of Independence Day.  This year’s theme is “Kalayaan 2018: Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan.”

 

Simultaneous flag-raising and wreath-laying rites will be conducted at 8:00 a.m. at the Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine, Kawit, Cavite with President Rodrigo Roa-Duterte as guest of honor.  Activities at the Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine will be replicated at the Rizal National Monument, Rizal Park, Manila; Barasoain Church Historical Landmark, Malolos City; Pinaglabanan Memorial Shrine, San Juan City; Bonifacio National Monument, Caloocan City; Mausoleo de los Veteranos de la Revolucion, North Cemetery, Manila; and the Pamintuan House, Angeles City.

 

The Parada ng Kalayaan, to be participated by various government agencies, military services, and other private organizations will be held at the Quirino Grandstand at 3:00 p.m., with the theme: Banyuhay, Ang Pagsulong mula sa kasaysayan ng pakikipaglaban para sa kalayaan.

 

Each cluster shall have a Banyuhay float to represent the development in all of the regions in the Philippines.  The floats gracing the parade will highlight the cultural heritage of different regions in the Philippines celebrating the unity indiversity that the independence of our nation signifies.

 

Various cultural events and performances will be showcased at the Quirino Grandstand, at the Rizal Park Open Air Auditorium, and selected SM Malls.  Mga Pampamahalaang Programa at Serbisyo presents the flagship projects and community services offered by government agencies will be held on 11-12 June at the Burnham  Green, Rizal Park, Manila.  Free medical/dental/optical services spearheaded by the Department of Health will be held on 12 June from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m at the Noli Me Tangere Garden, Rizal Park, Manila.  Kalayaan Job Fair will be held on 12 June at the Senior Citizens Garden, Rizal Park, Manila from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote and preserve Philippine historical heritage through research and publication, conservation, marking of historic sites and structures, and administration of national shrines and museums.
