During the Philippine Revolution, the town of Macabebe was reduced to ashes at the hands of Philippine revolutionaries. Albeit an unpopular topic in our history, it is important to know and recognize the Macabebes, known to be valiant soldiers by both the Spanish and the Americans who enlisted their help. In April 1899, it was said that, when the advancing American forces has reached the province, retreating revolutionaries burned down the extant houses, buildings, and churches there. Many historians have surmised that, perhaps, the burning of Macabebe left unresolved feelings of resentment from their townspeople towards the revolutionaries.
The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications, and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
