CONCEPCION, TARLAC, 15 April 2024 – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) with the Province of Tarlac and the Municipality of Concepcion will lead the nation’s commemoration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of General Servillano Aquino on 19 April 2024, 8:00 AM at the Municipal Plaza of Concepcion, Tarlac. Tarlac 2nd District Representative Noel “Bong” N. Rivera will serve as the Guest of Honor joined by NHCP Chairperson Lisa Guerrero Nakpil, Tarlac Governor Susan A. Yap, Concepcion Mayor Noel L. Villanueva, and Former Senator Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV.
General Servillano Aquino was born in Angeles City on 20 April 1874. He joined the Katipunan in 1896 and was elected to lead the local government of Murcia (now Concepcion), Tarlac. Under the command of General Francisco Makabulos, he led his men in skirmishes around Mt. Arayat but was defeated by the Spanish. He joined other Filipino patriots exiled in Hong Kong after the Pact of Biak-na-Bato and later returned to continue the struggle against the Spanish and the Americans. Assigned under General Antonio Luna, he also served as a delegate to the Malolos Congress and continued to resist American rule until 1902. He was imprisoned and sentenced to death but was pardoned by the Americans after two years in prison.
The NHCP is the principal government agency mandated with strengthening our people’s nationalism through the promotion of Philippine history and the protection of our cultural heritage.
