CASTILLEJOS, ZAMBALES – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines – Museo ni Ramon Magsaysay (NHCP-MRM) will conduct an art exhibit entitled CONTRAST: The Life and Legacy of Anita Magsaysay-Ho from 2-16 March 2024, at the Museo ni Ramon Magsaysay in Castillejos, Zambales.

The art works of artists from Casa San Miguel, CREATE, and Subic National High School Young Artists will feature the life and legacy of Anita Magsaysay-Ho.  This activity is in celebration of National Arts Month with the theme “Ani ng Sining, Bayang Malikhain.”

Anita Corpus Magsaysay-Ho was born in Manila on 25 May 1914. Her father, Ambrosio, is the brother of Exequiel, Ramon Magsaysay’s father, which makes Anita and Ramon first cousins. She studied at the University of the Philippines – School of Fine Arts under the supervision of Fabian de la Rosa, Vicente Rivera y Mir, and Fernando and Pablo Amorsolo. She took further studies abroad, focusing on oil paintings and drawing, where she met her future husband, Roberto Ho. Her painting subjects are mostly women, harvesting fruits, gathering sheaves of grain, or selling fish in the marketplace wearing their baro’t saya and bandana.

A multi-awarded painter, she has won prizes in the 1950 Manila Grand Opera House Exhibition, Graphic Arts in 1952, and from the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP) for several years on.

The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote and preserve Philippine history and heritage through its administration of national shrines, museums, research and publication, heraldry, conservation, and marking of historic sites and structures.
