The National Historical Commission of the Philippines is proud to announce the appointment of Carminda R. Arevalo as its new Executive Director. The Commission takes pride of her impressive tenure of over three decades at the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), a journey that exemplifies her commitment to government service and promotion of history.

She started as a historical writer-translator in 1989 of then-National Historical Institute, steadily ascending the ranks from a history researcher to senior history researcher, supervising history researcher, and acting chief history researcher. Her exceptional dedication culminated in her appointment as Deputy Executive Director for Administration in 2014.

In 2021, Ms. Arevalo assumed the pivotal role of Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Executive Director, taking the helm during the challenging transition to the “new normal” prompted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Her leadership steered the Commission with strategies prioritizing employee safety and well-being, all the while ensuring uninterrupted service delivery, including through online means.

Executive Director Arevalo championed the principles of good governance and effective housekeeping, with NHCP attaining ISO 9001:2015 certification for quality management systems; an Outstanding Accounting Office award by the Association of Government Accountants of the Philippines (2021-2022); compliance to Freedom of Information (2021); and the grant of Performance-Based Bonus (2020-2021).

She holds a master’s degree in government management and has completed the academic requirements leading to a degree in doctor of government management.
Ms. Arevalo’s remarkable rise through the ranks and in-depth understanding of NHCP’s core functions and operational insight make her a pillar of stability in ensuring the Commission’s continued success. The public can take confidence in Ms. Arevalo’s leadership, knowing that her extensive experience and dedication to NHCP’s mission make her well-suited to steer the organization toward sustained excellence and the preservation of our nation’s history and heritage.
