MARAWI CITY, 20 OCTOBER 2023 – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), led by Chairman Emmanuel Franco Calairo and HSED Chief Gina C. Batuhan, met with the Board of the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH), led by Chairperson Salem Y. Lingasa (Maguindanao), accompanied by Commissioners Robert M. Alonto (Lanao del Sur), Ardan A. Sali (Sulu), Merfa A. Ampao (Basilan), and Elmasia L. Madjilon (Tawi-Tawi).  

The cultural agencies discussed various topics including the mandated devolution of functions under the Bangsamoro Organic Law, possible future engagements in developing regional and local history, and the coming 650th Anniversary of Philippine Muslim History and Heritage in 2030. After the meeting, Chairman Calairo and Commissioner Alonto visited the Marawi City Ground Zero where they inspected the ruins from the siege and discussed possible initiatives in restoring some of Marawi City’s historic sites.  

The NHCP is the principal government agency mandated with strengthening our people’s nationalism through the promotion of Philippine history and the protection of our heritage.
