MANILA, 23 OCTOBER 2023 – In commemoration of Juan Luna’s 166th birth anniversary, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) will discuss its method of establishing the hero’s latest date of birth on 25 October 2023 at the NHCP Multipurpose Hall, T.M. Kalaw Avenue, Ermita, Manila. The NHCP Board of Commissioners passed Resolution No. 18 on 3 October 2023, rectifying the date of birth of prominent Filipino painter Juan Luna. It was later announced to the public on 9 October 2023.

The program coincides with the NHCP’s centennial launch period from 23-25 October 2023, the last day being the Open House Activity. It aims to introduce the mandates of the NHCP and its day-to-day operations to the public.
The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote and preserve Philippine history and heritage through its administration of national shrines, museums, research and publication, heraldry works, conservation, and marking of historic sites and structures, including the resolution of historical issues and controversies.
