TANAUAN, BATANGAS – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) with the City of Tanauan, will lead the rites commemorating the 159th birth anniversary of Apolinario Mabini on 23 July 2023, 8:00 a.m. at the Dambanang Apolinario Mabini, Tanauan City.  

Batangas 6th District Representative Ralph G. Recto will lead the flag-raising and wreath-laying rites which will be officiated by the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Other wreath offerors to the event are Batangas 3rd District Representative Ma. Theresa V. Collantes, NHCP Chairman Dr. Emmanuel Franco Calairo, Batangas Governor Hermilando I. Mandanas, Tanauan City Mayor Nelson P. Collantes, Tanauan City Vice Mayor Atty. Herminigildo G. Trinidad, Jr., and Mabini’s descendant, Capt. Rico Talagsad-Mabini.   

A short program will commence after the ceremonial rites. Vice Mayor Trinidad will deliver his welcome remarks to be followed by the messages of Rep. Collantes and NHCP Chairman Calairo. Mayor Collantes will introduce the guest of honor, Rep. Recto. Then, a plaque of recognition will be presented by Mayor Collantes to Rep. Recto after the latter’s speech. It will be followed by a short message from Capt. Talagsad-Mabini giving honor to Apolinario Mabini.    

Apolinario Mabini was born on 23 July 1864 to parents Inocencio Mabini and Dionisia Maranan. He was the secretary of the La Liga Filipina in 1893, an organization founded by Jose Rizal that advocated reforms in society and helped their members financially through their monthly contributions. Mabini later joined the Katipunan where his works, El Verdadero Decalogo and Programa Constitucional dela Republica Filipina became instrumental in the drafting of what would be known as the Malolos Constitution.   

The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications, and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
