National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chair Dr. Rene R. Escalante will lead the wreath-laying rites and unveiling of the historical marker in commemoration of the 160th birth anniversary of Juan Luna on 24 October 2017, 8:00 a.m., at the Museo nina Juan at Antonio Luna, in Badoc, Ilocos Norte.
He will be joined by Ilocos Norte Governor Imee R. Marcos, National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Acting Executive Director Ludovico D. Badoy, and Badoc Municipal Mayor Maximo Cajigal.
Badoc Mayor Cajigal will deliver the welcome remarks while Governor Marcos will provide an inspirational message. Dr. Escalante will deliver a message.
Juan Luna was a renowned Filipino painter whose famous works such as the Spoliarium, the Blood Compact, and the Death of Cleopatra, won awards in various expositions abroad. In 1898, he became a diplomat of the Philippines.
The commemorative program is spearheaded by the NHCP in coordination with the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte and Municipal Government of Badoc.
The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums and publications, and preserve the nation’s historical heritage.
