Quezon City – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), in coordination with the EDSA People Power Commission (EPPC), Spirit of EDSA Foundation (SOEF) and other national and local government agencies will lead the commemoration of the 33rd anniversary of the 1986 People Power Revolution on 25 February 2019, 8:00 a.m., at the EDSA People Power Monument, EDSA, Quezon City. This year’s theme is “EDSA 2019: Pagkakaisa Tungo sa Pambansang Kapayapaan .”
Flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies will be led by Department of Education Undersecretary Lorna Dig-Dino as the event’s guest of honor. She will be joined by Former President Fidel V. Ramos, NHCP and EPPC Chairman Rene R. Escalante, and NHCP Acting Executive Director Ludovico D. Badoy. Representatives from military, civil society and various religious sectors will also join in the celebration.
Highlights of the program will be: the special messages of Mr. Reli German, (representing the civilian sector), Sister Sara Manopol, (representing the religious sector), and Gen. Antonio Sotelo, (representing the military sector); conferment of the Freedom Awards to Ms. Cecile Guidote-Alvarez, Ms. Marianne “Maan” Hontiveros, and Mr. Eufrosino “Sonny” Camarillo; and the Spirit of EDSA and Good Citizenship Movement Award to Ms. Mercy Abad representing AKKAP Ka and Fr. Benigno Beltran, SVD.
