Taal, Batangas – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) led the wreath-laying ceremony in commemoration of the 162nd birth anniversary of Felipe Agoncillo on 26 May 2021, 9:00 a.m., at the Gregorio Agoncillo Mansion, Taal, Batangas.

The commemorative event was limited to few attendees due to the IATF rules on social gatherings. The public was invited to visit the NHCP website and official Facebook page for the details of the event. 

Felipe Agoncillo was born on 27 May 1859 to Ramon Agoncillo, and Gregoria Encarnacion. A lawyer by profession, he was appointed as Minister Plenipotentiary by President Emilio Aguinaldo and was tasked to attain recognition of Philippine independence by other countries on 27 August 1898. He was the representative of the first district of Batangas in the Philippine Assembly from 1907 to 1909 and Secretary of Interior from 1923 to 1925.

NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine History through its museums and publications and preserve the nation’s historical heritage.
