On 17 February, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) will lead the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the martyrdom of Frs. Jose Burgos, Mariano Gomes, and Jacinto Zamora with this year’s theme, “GOMBURZA: Pamana ng Paglilingkod at Pag-aalay.”

Simultaneous wreath laying rites will be conducted at 8:00 a.m. at the GOMBURZA Execution Site, Rizal Park, Manila led by Vice Mayor Ma. Sheilah Lacuna-Pangan and NHCP Chairman Dr. Rene R. Escalante; Fr. Mariano Gomes Monument, Bacoor, Cavite to be led by Bacoor Mayor Lani Mercado-Revilla; Fr. Jose Burgos Monument, Plaza Burgos, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur to be led by Vigan City Mayor Juan Carlo Medina; and Fr. Jacinto Zamora Monument, Pandacan, Manila to be led by Manila 6th District Representative Bienvenido M. Abante, Jr.

NHCP Chairman Escalante and Vice Mayor Lacuna-Pangan will deliver messages during the program at the GOMBURZA Execution Site in Rizal Park. It will also be graced by National Museum of the Philippines Director-General Jeremy Barns, National Parks Development Committee Executive Director Cecille L. Romero, Manila Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Maria Magdalena Lim, National Commission for Culture and the Arts Chairman Arsenio Lizaso, Intramuros Administration Administrator Atty. Guiller Asido, Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines Grand Master Rolen C. Paulino, Grand Knight Dr. Paulo Bellosillo of the Knights of Columbus, Boy Scouts of the Philippines National President Dale B. Corvera, and Girl Scouts of the Philippines National President Dr. Cristina Lim-Yuson. The Armed Forces of the Philippines will administer the ceremonial rites.

At 9:00 a.m., the blessing of the tomb of the three martyrs at Paco Park Cemetery will be officiated by Rev. Fr. Joel Rescober, CM.

The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote and presever Philippine historical heritage through research and publication, conservation, marking of historic sites and structures, and administration of national shrines and museums.
