Lubao, Pampanga – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) and the Municipality of Lubao spearheaded the conduct of commemorative program in line with the 111th birth anniversary of Diosdado Macapagal on 28 September 2021, 8:00 a.m. at the Museo at Aklatan ni Diosdado Macapagal.

Due to the COVID pandemic situation in Pampanga and NCR, the commemorative event was limited to a few attendees. Lubao Mayor Esmeralda Pineda offered the wreath on behalf of the Municipality of Lubao and Museo at Aklatan ni Diosdado Macapagal OIC Gil Angelo Manalili offered the wreath for the NHCP at the Macapagal Monument. Wreaths from the Provincial Government of Pampanga, and descendants of Diosdado Macapagal were prepositioned.

The simple program was not opened to the public, however everyone was invited to visit the official NHCP website and Facebook page for the details of the event.

Diosdado Macapagal was born on 28 September 1910 to parents Urbano Macapagal and Romana Pangan. He was an excellent student and despite the lack of resources, he managed to finish his law degree in 1936. Macapagal became President of the Republic of the Philippines in 1961 where he dedicated his work to suppress corruption, stimulate the growth of the economy, and passed the Agricultural Land Reform Code, the first land reform legislation of the country.

NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine History through its museums and publications, and preserve the nation’s historical heritage.
